One of Australia's greatest artists, Hans Heysen (1877-1968), is celebrated with the first major retrospective of his work in three decades. Hans Heysen is a leading figure in Australian art and one of the major Australian landscape artists of the first half of the twentieth century. The paintings by Heysen, in oil and watercolour, are revered for their original depictions of the Australian landscape. Like other great landscape artists, he changed the way people viewed their own country. This national survey exhibition marks the fortieth anniversary of the artist's death and celebrates the eightieth anniversary of the first exhibition of his paintings of the Flinders Ranges.
